Interview with Pearl Lowe

To coincide with the launch of her eighth collection for high street brand Peacocks. Lowes' designs have been hugely popular and this Christmas collection is set to be another sell-out. Inspired by old Hollywood glamour and modelled by daughter Daisy Lowe, the range is sultry, feminine and flattering. We had a chat with Pearl and got a sneak peek into her personal style...

Congratulations on your eighth collection for Peacocks. Talk us through the collection…

I wanted this range to be really Christmassy, I got my inspiration from all my favourite old fashioned movies like Singing in The Rain & An Affair to Remember, so each dress was based on what those glamourous Hollywood starlets wore.

Which pieces do you enjoy wearing most and how did you style them?

My favourite pieces from this Collection have to be the red lace dress & the long black floral one. I tend to always team them up with black woolford tights & Chie Mihara lace up shoes.

Your rock ‘n’ roll to countryside life story has been well written about – did you ever see yourself going into fashion design and how has a calmer lifestyle changed your outlook?

I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I'd go into fashion design, as soon as I moved to the Country I started creating & stopped singing, so I guess it's changed my outlook dramatically.

You and your daughter Daisy are both synonymous with fashion – who steals whose clothes and how does your style differ?

The one thing that has changed since I left London is that I don't buy designer clothes & Daisy now does, the annoying thing is that she can wear all my vintage dresses but I can't wear any of her clothes because she is a size 8 & I'm a size 10. I steal all her wonderful bags though. We have very different styles, Daisy is much more experimental than me & she wears a lot of more colourful stuff, I'm a lot safer, I haven't changed my look for years.

Pearl Lowe - Christmas Collection from on Vimeo. is all about everyday style – how do you get dressed in the morning and have you got any tips for those who want to keep their style fresh on a budget?

We are renovating our House at the moment, so I am constantly on a budget when it comes to clothes. I have started buying vintage lace collars & sewing them on to old dresses to give them a new lease of life, I also add strips of lace to the hems too.

If your wardrobe was on fire, what would you save?

My Chanel Bag, my 1920s Cape, I'd grab as many vintage dresses I could carry.

What’s been your number one fashion triumph and what would you rather forget ever happened?

I once borrowed a brown Vivienne Westwood Dress for the V&A's, it was so beautiful, I wish I could have kept it. I once wore a see through black lace dress for a party & the picture went everywhere, it makes me cringe when magazines & papers continue to print it.

If you could steal someone’s wardrobe, who’s would it be?

Alexa Chung, but I'd have to lose 3 stone to wear it.

You’ve turned your hand to singing, writing, fashion designing and textiles – what’s next in the world of Pearl Lowe?

I'm actually going to be acting in a movie which is pretty exciting & scary at the same time & I'm really enjoying creating my Children's line for Peacocks.
